BANGOR - The Maine Discovery Museum's Board announced recently that Niles Parker has been appointed executive director of the Maine Discovery Museum.
Parker, a Hampden resident, has most recently served as executive director of the Penobscot Marine Museum in Searsport.
"Niles is committed to making the Museum a continuing resource for children and families in our region," said MDM Board President John Miller. "The Board is extremely pleased that Niles will join us to help guide and shape the Museum."
Prior to his work at the Penobscot Marine Museum, Parker was the chief curator and director at the Nantucket Historical Association in Nantucket, Massachusetts and the director of exhibitions for the New York State Historical Association in Cooperstown, New York. Parker graduated from Colby College and earned his Masters degree in Museum Studies from the SUNY-Cooperstown museum studies program.
"It's amazing to have this caliber of museum in our community," Parker said. "As a museum professional and as a parent whose own children have loved the Discovery Museum, I have been truly impressed with MDM's efforts. My focus right away will be to learn all there is to know about the museum and its relationships with the local business community and the schools. I believe those relationships are a fantastic way to reach more children and families. I'm also looking forward to discovering past and present visitor favorites and finding ways to enhance the museum and its programming."
