Museum Adventures! Add a Museum Adventure as part of a 2-hour Field Trip. 25 children maximum, 45-60 minutes per Adventure Cost $40/group Adventures are not available for Overnight visits. Bone Heads: Of all the bones that make up the bodies of vertebrates, no group is more distinctive and beautiful than the skull. Protecting the brain, housing the sense organs, chewing food, the skull is an elegant work of art. Participants will view skulls from a wide variety of vertebrates and compare skulls of carnivores, omnivores, and herbivores. Waterbug Safari: One scoop of pond water contains a whole universe of life. Learn the difference between plankton and zooplankton. Learn about the unique adaptations of the dragonfly, and more than you ever knew about leeches, water boatmen, midges, and their freshwater companions. This program is all about the discovery of these aquatic, spineless wonders. (Gr. K-6, available spring, summer and fall) Or... Add on a Creature Feature 30 children maximum, 20 minutes, $35/group. One way to guarantee a memorable and educational visit to MDM is to book a live animal demo. Maine Discovery Museum has a large assortment of amazing creatures, from live snapping turtles to a legless lizard. These demos introduce students to creatures that are ecologically important and often misunderstood. Learn how they are adapted to their environment, what they eat, and how they survive in the wild.
