Overnights: A Real Night at the Museum! Spend a Night in the Great Indoors! Our programs are badge-friendly for boy scouts and girl scouts and add great fun and education to your visit! Please note: Requests must be received 2 weeks prior to requested overnight date and that there is a minimum charge of $750.00 (at $30.00/child, $25/adult). Planning Your Overnight... Presentations vs. Drop-in Activities 1. Presentations Presentations are scheduled for a specific time and typically last about 30-45 min. They can have repeat sessions to accommodate large groups The number of children who can participate varies depending on the subject matter. One presentation FREE with Overnight *Presentations are also available for group visits for an additional charge. Arts & Culture Putting on the Play: Make a story come to life with make-up, props and sounds! Then put on a short play for everyone! All ages, up to 15 children/session (Option of up to 2 Sessions) Lotions and Potions: The sometimes gross, sometimes funny history of personal hygiene comes to life with hands-on mixology. What will you make: bath fizzies, dog bed deodorizer, foot soak? Each child can invent his or her own, unique beauty products and fragrances! All ages, up to 20 children/session (Option of up to 3 Sessions) Bubble Gum Making: Learn something about the history of dental care and American ingenuity and experience chemistry in action when you “cook” your own batch of delicious bubble gum. This “sweet” workshop can be presented as an introduction to chemistry. All ages, up to 20 children/session (Option of up to 3 Sessions) Lords and Ladies: Take a trip to the time of knights and castles. Learn about chivalry, tournaments and heraldry. Design and paint your own shield, sword and scabbard and fanciful Renaissance headdress (for the ladies). All ages, up to 20 children/session (Option of up to 3 Sessions) Animals & Nature Note:Live animal presentations are subject to change without notice in case of the animals not being up for it! No place like home: What places do animals call home? Set up a complete little habitat for a family of crickets, darkling beetle babies or a gang of slugs (seasonal availability). Take home your n ew pets and study them as they eat, build, communicate and grow. Ages 5+, up to 20 children/session (Option of up to 2 Sessions) Turtle Time -- live animal presentation: Meet creatures who’ve been around longer than the dinosaurs. Touch (and even try on) different shells. Watch and learn how these ancient armored animals move, eat and live. All ages, up to 30 children Slithering Snakes -- live animal presentation: Get up close and personal with one of nature’s most feared and misunderstood animal. Find out how they get around without legs, what they eat and if they make good pets. Recommended 5+, up to 30 children Watch out -- dragons! Make friends with a real-life dragon. Find out if he can do the things storybook dragons are famous for. Feel his scales, check out his claws and give him a treat! Recommended 5+, up to 30 children Yikes -- bugs! Why do so many people dislike bugs? Meet our friendly Madagascar Hissing Cockroaches; they will convince you that bugs are important and awesome! All ages, up to 30 children Science: Chemistry & Physics! Shocking Science (Physics): Come experience jolts and volts! Get ready for hair-raising, safe fun with one of the most amazing forces of our world: electricity! Recommended 7+, up to 15 children/session (Option of up to 3 Sessions) Mad Science: Experiments with bubbling, exploding gases, powered by stuff colder than the North Pole! Do you dare make a cool, refreshing beverage with it? Or try this: Tiny rockets shooting “up, up and away” powered by edible gas trapped in a drink! Harness the power of compressed gas when you race a balloon powered car you designed and built! (Physics and chemistry) Recommended 7+, up to 20 children/session (Option of up to sessions) Weird Science: Exploding diapers: hydrogel in action! What really goes on inside your huggies? Experiment with the amazing stuff that can really hold a load! (Chemistry) Or try this: Self-assembling slime balls: meet the molecule that builds itself! We’ll lay down a super skinny Nano film to make all the colors of the rainbow. Find out where rainbow colors come from and see and touch examples from nature.
