Something for everyone, every week

Join Maine Discovery Museum educators and volunteers for our popular weekly programs, free with paid admission to the museum:
Messy Art is our popular Little One’s Art, and it’s going to be even more fun! While kids let the sparkle, puffy, day-glow, scented, washable paints fly, they build artistic confidence and skills. Messy Art helps increase self-expression and the use of young children’s imaginations.
Creativity Corner brings in a whole new way of creating art in 3D: boxes, wooden pieces, recyclables, fabric, yarn and whatever materials little hands can easily manipulate and big imaginations can dream up!
Science Detectives will focus on physics, chemistry and materials science and engineering. Hands-on, age and developmentally appropriate experiments promise joyful, memorable “aha!” moments which encourage an interest in science and learning. Contents will be based on the National Science Education Standards and geared towards the Maine Learning Results.
Natural history takes center stage in our new Curiosity Corner. Children will observe animals and examine preserved specimens, rocks and plants. By getting to know the natural world through multi-sensory experiences, children will learn to respect and cherish the world they’ll inherit.
We filled the week with activities for you to choose from, both in the morning and afternoon. Maine Discovery Museum is THE place for growing minds, budding scientists, and future artists. Together, we’ll ignite the spark for life-long learning in your child!
Special programs tied to an event in history or a special fun project happen every Saturday and Sunday! For details about our weekly programs, please visit our online calendar.
