The Penobscot River Watershed is a remarkable region replete with history, culture, natural resources, and stories of growth, loss, natural beauty, degradation, and renewal. The river itself tells a story of resilience, not just in terms of the fish and wildlife, but in terms of the people of this region and their collaborative approach to natural conservation and historic preservation.

Explore scenes from your favorite Maine children’s stories, like Goodnight Moon! Ride a motorcycle, put on a play, plant a garden, and explore the library.

Blast off! In this hands-on exhibition, you’ll learn about how scientists study the Earth, Sun, solar system, and the universe.

Be an artist! Design, create, build, and more with exhibits geared to bring out the Monet in us all. Design a Light-Bright display or build a towering sculpture from PVC pipes.

PET VET
Take care of Pedro, Digger, and Tab. E. Cat! Perform a “cat” scan, wellness exam, and mend an owie limb. Learn how to take care of our stuffy pet vet patients and your real pets at home.
DINO DIG
Dig up and identify fossils, read about dinosaurs, and discover fossil hunting in Maine. Based on paleontology, the study of prehistoric life, DINO DIG gives museum visitors a glimpse into the work of a paleontologist. What were dinosaurs like? What did they eat? What is a living fossil?

What happens at the doctor’s office? Be the patient or the doctor as you explore the many aspects of medicine while play-acting and pretending.
