Art & Ecology: Outside The Classroom
Caribou Bog Outdoor Center
July 7 - July 10
Children entering 4th-5th grade
July 14 - July 17
Children entering 6th-8th grade
This STEAM Ecology Summer Camp is a great opportunity for upper elementary and middle school students who love the outdoors to learn about and interact with nature through hands-on, interactive projects and experiences. Campers will combine art and science to explore their local ecosystems and be encouraged to take a closer look at the world around them. Campers will have the chance to view the world through the eyes of a naturalist, and work on creative projects that explore sustainability, environmental adaptations, local Maine flora and fauna, and more. Daily hikes around the Caribou Bog Outdoor Center and surrounding area will provide campers with the opportunity to engage directly with the environment they are learning about, using it as an inspiration for their daily projects. Whether dyeing fabric with natural dyes or creating new creatures to inhabit the Maine woods, campers will leave with a newfound appreciation for the outdoors and the interconnectedness of nature.
Girls Build The Future
July 28 - July 31
Girls entering 6th-8th grade
This camp provides opportunities to participate in hands-on design challenges, meet real-life engineers, and engage in engineering tasks that simulate what it's like to work in construction engineering. Our campers will learn about real-world construction topics, such as the infrastructure communities need to function, and explore creative solutions to modern construction and engineering problems. This STEM camp will introduce girls to role models, show them different career paths, explore basic construction concepts, and have fun while experimenting with various building materials and techniques. The camp culminates in a final project where participants design their own town, applying everything they've learned throughout the program. Through our curriculum, middle school girls will have the chance to explore career options they may not have considered before and strengthen their creative thinking skills.
